Screen Printing

This was my final idea for my screen print, I only needed to use 2 colours for it; Black and orange-red.

To start we had to coat the screens in photosensitive emulsion and then leave them in a dark room so that it didn't dry up.

To screen print, I had to make two different print outs on astatate with black over where the colours needed to be. I then placed these astatate sheet over the screens and placed them into an exposure unit. This meant that the covered parts stayed wet and the parts that were exposed became hardened.

Then I ran the screens under water and brushed out the unhardened emulsion.
I mixed the right colour inks to used and then flooded the screen with the orange, using the squeegee. I placed the paper below the screen and then pulled the squeegee back across and printed the colour on to 3 sheets.
This is the first layer printed, I printed onto three different sheets in case I got a one wrong.
I then flooded the second screen with black ink, lined up the sheets and printed the black layer.
Two of them didn't work properly and the ink ran a bit, but one of them worked well.
